Diary of a Bride: Wedding Budget

One of the most important things to do when planning your wedding is to work out your wedding budget. To work out what are the most important elements of your wedding day. There are so many different aspects to it so it is important to work out what you want to spend money on and where you would like to save money and DIY for example.

But how do you figure it all out? Where do you start?

The last thing anyone wants to do is get into debt thanks to their wedding, so a wedding budget is a crucial part of the wedding planning.

So here is a little handy checklist of the main things that weddings tend to need/incorporate to get you started by Veronica Dearly.

So for me, there are three main elements that are very important to me. And those are the venue, hair and makeup and the photography. And if budget allows, a videographer too.

We want our venue to be a reflection of us. We want laid back, quirky and fun. We want somewhere that we can personalise our day as we want it. We don’t want a typical/traditional wedding venue where it feels we have to have a more formal wedding. I also personally don’t want a barn wedding, just because I shoot a lot of weddings in barns and I frickin love barn weddings, but I’m worried that I will feel like I’m attending someone else’s wedding rather than my own.

I want professional hair and makeup done for the day as I don’t want to be stressing over it on the morning of my wedding day. I want to be pampered and just sit back and be full of nerves and excitement instead. I want to know I will look awesome for the whole of my day.

Photography of course is very important to me. We want professional photographs to document our day. I want to be able to look through my wedding album with my children and their children when they have them and for it to be passed down so our legacy remains within the family. And if ever any of them wonder where they get their weirdness from, they can just check out the album for confirmation and know it’s from us.

So what about the rest of the wedding? Well there are quite a few things that I know I am more likely to spend less money on compared to the above.

I am happy to just buy a nice dress or skirt and top for my wedding outfit. Beka wore a beautiful tulle skirt and top for her wedding which was so simple and elegant, I absolutely loved it. And she still looked like a bride as pictured on the top of this page!

I already plan to wear Converses or DMs. I am happy for a simple wedding band as well as I’m not big on jewellery. I’m a simple kind of gal.  I want to DIY a lot of our decorations. We have a pretty good idea of what our theme would be and ideas of what we would like for decorations.

Other big costs that we would be looking at are things like catering, stationery, flowers and cake. I have been thinking about how I would love to have an outdoor picnic during our wedding and possibly a bake off for our cakes. I am a bit obsessed with The Great British Bake Off.

We would also like garden games for our guests (hoping that it will be a dry day) for the drinks reception. I’d also love a photobooth as I always find them so much fun at weddings.

So obviously as we sit down and think about what we would like, costs start to add up. It also depends on how many guests we would have. At the moment, we think it will be somewhere between 80-100.

So much to think about. But so freaking excited!
