Elin and Jordan’s wedding had to be one of my favourites last year. Held at Tip Top Venues wedding venue in Buckinghamshire, they had an amazing day. The day saw all types of weather. From rain, storm clouds, sun and rainbows. One of the couple’s best friends was the wedding celebrant. There were special touches such as a crostini station set up in honour of Elin’s late grandmother. In the evening, there was a constant crowd around the glitter bar. There were smoke bombs and sparklers. At one point we had to run across a field to get photos with a rainbow.
Here’s Elin to tell you more about her wedding day.
About The Bride and Groom
We have been together since 2012 – we met when I was working at the European Wheelchair Basketball Championships and he was playing for France! I couldn’t speak a word of French, he couldn’t speak a word of English. But somehow 10 days later, after the Championships were over, I was booked to fly to Bordeaux to pick up where we left off and the rest was history! We were engaged on my 27th birthday with my family and best friend at dinner. Jordan made sure my wonderful Nan was there who unfortunately didn’t make it to the wedding. So it was so special she saw us get engaged.
About Their Wedding
Working in events, I knew I needed a venue that we could do exactly what we wanted without being restricted to ‘recommended suppliers’. We found Tip Top Venues wedding venue from a friend who got married there a year earlier. We knew it was perfect the second we found the Lakeside plot. Even though we viewed it in a rainy January, it was absolutely stunning and for the first time could imagine the whole day coming together.
I’m really crafty so more or less the second we got engaged I was already pinning the life out of tipi weddings and getting to work!! The colour scheme was always going to be colourful and summery. It was hard to keep within the colours. But our florist was awesome and recommended getting paint swatches from B&Q which really helped.
We wanted our guests to walk in and say ‘that is so Elin and Jordan’. For it to be memorable as our day and personal to us. We spent a lot of time making personal touches and on reflection they were what made the day so special for us and our guests.
From the very start we knew we wanted celebrant Mark Avis to run our ceremony as we knew he would provide the upbeat, relaxed atmosphere we wanted to create – and he did not disappoint! From the second the ceremony began, us and the guests were in hysterics. It was more than we could have dreamt and everyone still talks about how funny and personal the ceremony was!
Our first dance song was Flying Without Wings. Our relationship has often been between two countries, made work through language barriers and hours on Skype. This song reminds us of the fact that it was all worth it.
About Elin’s Wedding Dress
We were getting married in a field and knowing what I’m like after a glass of prosecco on a dancefloor, there was no way I was going to spend thousands on a dress! Thankfully I found my absolute dream dress in Wed2Be for just £600. On reflection I made the right choice to save our money – by the end of the night my dress was covered in grass stains, drinks and mud!!
Elin’s Thoughts On Clare Tam-Im Photography
We weren’t even engaged yet when we met Clare at a friends wedding and we already made a pact that when it happened, she would be our photographer! She was relaxed, fun and blended in like a friend – she was a pleasure to have at the wedding. Every person that has seen our photos comments on how Clare amazingly captured the feel and atmosphere of the day and it really is what makes the photos so fantastic.
Elin’s Favourite Part Of The Day
The ceremony, which during planning was the part we were dreading! Looking around seeing all of our loved ones from around the world laughing, cheering and relaxed; it was exactly as we had imagined.
Elin’s Advice For Engaged Couples
Make sure you love your wedding – you’re spending some serious cash so it needs to give you butterflies! If you’re in love with it, your loved ones will be too.
Don’t be afraid to branch off from the standard one colour scheme. So many guests commented on how the bright mix of colours made the day summery and fun. Also the photos were beautiful with the mix of colours.
Book Clare Tam-Im – I recommend her to anyone that’ll listen!
