High House Farm Brewery Wedding – An Alternative Wedding With A Rock n Roll Bride

I loved this High House Farm Brewery wedding. Lucy and Stuart were an awesome couple to photograph. They had their wedding at High House Farm Brewery in Northumberland and invited a small number of loved ones. With a unicorn, fox and squirrel balloons to fit in with their woodland theme, the brewery was a perfect setting. Here’s Lucy to tell you more about their wedding day and all the awesome details they had.

About The Bride and Groom

We have been together for five and a half years. Stuart proposed to me outside the tiger enclosure at London Zoo which is one of my favourite places last year. Because I am one of those people that has been planning my wedding forever, we started planning right away. The wedding was just over a year later.

About Their Wedding Venue

We knew that we wanted to get married in Northumberland because Stuart’s mum and stepdad live there. We looked at quite a few venues online but there were all a bit bigger than we were looking for. Then Stuart’s mum’s hairdresser mentioned High House Farm Brewery. We really liked what we saw on the website and they were really relaxed and friendly when we emailed them. We went to look at the venue and had lunch and fell in love with the views and the food! They only had one date left for 2017 at a weekend so we booked it there and then.

About Their Wedding

I love themed weddings and we wanted something that would fit in with the venue. We choose whimsical woodland because the wedding was in autumn. We both love squirrels and foxes and it being whimsical meant I could also include glitter and unicorns! I loved all of our decorations so it’s really hard to choose a favourite. But I really loved our fox cake topper and the balloons we chose. We also had cut outs of our cats seeing as they couldn’t be there! I was really pleased that the wedding activity books went down well too.

We wanted the ceremony to be relaxed and not too long. The readings we chose were special to us. I chose ‘Date a girl who reads’ because it was very apt as I am a massive book worm. There are so many books in our house and all four of my parents are big readers so I grew up surrounded by books. It was special to have my step mum read this because we are always talking about what we are reading and swapping books.

Stuart chose the second reading because we both really love animals and so does his mum Penny. Stuart grew up with dogs and he loves going to visit his mum so he can roll around on the floor with her dog Tarot. We kept our vows a secret from each other so we hadn’t heard each others before the ceremony. We both included lots of references to things that are special to us. Although I am not sure how many other people got the references. Stuart even managed to include a Star Trek quote in the exchanging of the rings wording.

About Lucy’s Wedding Dress

I knew that I wanted a 50s style dress and one of my sister in laws had a Fairy Gothmother dress for her wedding. I was really nervous about dress shopping and I didn’t want to have to go round lots of different shops. Luckily I saw several dresses that I liked and ended up going for one that was a bridesmaid dress and a bright pink petticoat and sash. My mum, step mum and maid of honour Kate came with me. I didn’t keep the dress a secret from Stuart and took pictures to show him. He even came with me for the final fitting.

I am a details nerd so the accessories were really important to me. I chose my veil on the same day we met Clare at the wedding show in London. We saw it as part of the bridal wear show as part of the next year Crown and Glory collections. It was so different I had to have it. My bouquet was really special as well. I knew I didn’t want real flowers because I wanted something I would be able to keep. I found Pumpkin and Pye on Etsy. Natasha, who made it, was brilliant. She listened to all my ideas and managed to come up with something that encompassed Alice in Wonderland, woodland creatures, cats and Day of the Dead. My earrings were Vivienne Westwood bought for me by my mum.

About Stuart’s Suit

Stuart really likes tweed. And we looked around a lot more shops for his outfit that we did for my dress! He chose a jacket and waist coat with a pair of jeans. We wanted a really relaxed day and told our guests to wear whatever they were comfortable in. We had paper buttons holes made out comic books, sheet music and map paper to suit the person they were made for. On the morning of the wedding I gave Stuart a pair of Star Wars cufflinks with ‘I love you, I know’ engraved on them.

Lucy’s Thoughts On Clare Tam-Im Photography

The photography was one of the only things for the wedding that I wasn’t sure about. I was really nervous about finding a photographer that would understand what we wanted and wouldn’t think we were too strange. We have been told off by photographers when being guests at weddings for being silly. We did look at photographers local to Northumberland. But we didn’t see anything we really liked and some of the quotes were up to £4000, which was way out of our budget.

We saw Clare at a wedding fayre in London and I really liked her style and the fact that she had photographed alternative weddings and same sex weddings. Colour is really important to me and I really liked the colourful pictures she had up on her stall. We really enjoyed working with Clare and she was brilliant on the day, really calm and relaxed. It really helped everyone enjoy having the group pictures done and have fun with it.

It’s hard to choose a favourite but I really loved the pictures of the venue and decorations. As the day went to fast I didn’t have a chance to appreciate everything at the time. I also love the pictures where me and Stuart are laughing together.

Lucy’s Favourite Part Of The Day

I think that’s definitely an impossible one to answer. But we both really loved seeing everyone enjoying themselves!

Lucy’s Advice For Engaged Couples

Do it your way! If you want something then go for it regardless of what anyone else thinks. And most importantly have fun with the person you love.
